What is the difference between washing or not washing the motorcycle chain?

1. Accelerate chain wear
Formation of sludge – After riding a motorcycle for a period of time, as the weather and road conditions vary, the original lubricating oil on the chain will gradually adhere to some dust and fine sand. A layer of thick black sludge gradually forms and adheres to the chain. The sludge will also cause the original lubricating oil of the chain to lose its lubrication effect.
The fine sand and dust in the sludge will continue to wear the front and rear gear discs during the transmission process. The teeth of the gear discs will gradually become sharper, and the matching gap with the chain will become larger and larger, which may cause abnormal noise.
2. Accelerate chain lengthening
Sludge will not only wear the crankset, but also wear the connecting shaft between the chains, causing the chain to gradually lengthen. At this time, the chain tension must be adjusted to avoid abnormal noise, chain detachment, and uneven power.
3. Unsightly
The deposited layer of sludge will make the chain look pitch black and even disgusting. Even if the motorcycle is cleaned, the chain cannot always be cleaned with water.

3. Cleaning of the chain
1. Prepare materials
Chain kit (cleaning agent, chain oil and special brush) and cardboard, it is best to prepare a pair of gloves. It is more convenient to have a vehicle with a large frame. If not, you can consider using a frame.
2. Clean the chain steps
A. First, you can use a brush to remove the sludge on the chain to loosen the thicker sludge and improve the cleaning effect.
B. If there is a large stand or lifting frame, the rear wheel of the vehicle can be elevated and put into neutral gear. Use detergent and a brush to do preliminary cleaning step by step.
C. After removing most of the sludge and exposing the original metal of the chain, spray it again with a cleaning agent to completely remove the remaining sludge and restore the original color of the chain.
D. In the case of site conditions, you can rinse the chain with clean water after cleaning the chain, so that some sludge stains that have been cleaned but not completely fallen off have nowhere to hide, and then wipe clean with a dry cloth. If there is no venue, after cleaning the chain, you can wipe it clean directly with a dry cloth.E. After cleaning, the chain can restore its original metallic color. At this time, use chain oil to aim at the balls of the chain and spray it in a circle. Remember not to spray more, as long as you spray a small amount in a circle and stand still for 30 minutes, it will not be easy to throw oil.
F. On-site cleaning – because when cleaning agent is sprayed, it is easy to splash onto the wheel hub. So finally, wipe the wheel hub with a damp cloth soaked in detergent, wrap the stained cardboard and discard it, and clean the floor.
4. Benefits of using chain oil
Many car enthusiasts have been using new engine oil and used engine oil as chain lubricants. We do not advocate or object to this. However, because engine oil can lubricate, it is easy to stick to dust and fine sand, and its effectiveness is short. The chain gets dirty quickly, especially after it rains and is cleaned.
The better side of using chain oil is that the chain has been upgraded to a certain extent by adding anti-wear molybdenum disulfide and using an oil base with better adhesion, making the chain oil less likely to shed oil like engine oil. The oils come in bottled spray cans, which are easier to use and carry, and are a must-have when traveling.
