Can a 7-speed chain replace a 9-speed chain?

Common ones include single-piece structure, 5-piece or 6-piece structure (early transmission vehicles), 7-piece structure, 8-piece structure, 9-piece structure, 10-piece structure, 11-piece structure and 12-piece structure (road cars).

8, 9, and 10 speeds represent the number of gears on the rear wheel flywheel. The higher the speed, the narrower the chain. Because all mountain bike pedals have three chainrings, if your rear flywheel has eight, that means the number of chainrings is 3 × the number of rear flywheels is 8, which equals 24, which means it’s 24-speed. If the rear flywheel has 10 pieces, in the same way, your car will be 3×10=30, which means it is 30 speed.

Mountain bike flywheels include 8-to-24-speed, 9-to-27-speed, and 10-to-30-speed flywheels. In fact, riders will not use all gears. They only use one gear 80% of the time. This gear must be the most suitable for the rider’s pedaling intensity and frequency.

It can be seen that the more gears a transmission system has, the more accurately the driver can choose the gear that suits him. The 27-speed has 3 more gears than the 24-speed, giving the driver more choices. And the more gears there are, the smoother the shifting.
